PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. — When Stephanie Desautels, of Plattsburgh, learned that her father had been diagnosed with Parkinson’s Disease, she decided to turn the bad news into something good.

The avid runner teamed up with fellow runner Jennifer Boyer, also of Plattsburgh, to organize a race in honor of Desautels’ father.

The women planned something Plattsburgh has never had, but they say, runners have always wanted.

The City of Plattsburgh Half Marathon will be held on Sunday, April 18.

All proceeds go to Team Fox, an organization founded by actor Michael J. Fox to raise money for Parkinson’s Disease Research.

“It’s a great cause and it’s something that I think is going to be nice to raise awareness for that organization, and some money of course,” Desautels said.

The 13.1 mile marathon takes runners throughout the city. So far, more than 260 runners have signed up.

“Plattsburgh has a lot of great things here as far as the mountains and beautiful areas for people to look at. I think it will just bring people here and let them see that,” Boyer said.
