Living with a chronic, progressive disease that causes uncontrollable tremors, stiffness and difficulty in speaking has not been easy for Doug Gigliotti. Every day has been a struggle since a day in 1997 when his hand shook so badly that he could barely finish his breakfast. Since he was diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease, the 51-year-old Elyria man said he has learned to live life to the fullest. “You just have to learn to do what you can when you can,” he said. “It will never get better. It will always get worse. There is no cure – yet. Hopefully, we will find one soon.”

To raise money to help in that effort, Gigliotti is organizing a steak fry benefit on Aug. 1. Starting at 4 p.m. at Elyria Catholic High School, the steak fry will benefit The Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson Disease.

Tickets are $25 per person, which includes a steak, baked potato, salad and roll. There will be a cash bar, along with 50/50, tip boards and Chinese auctions.

In addition, Rudy Ruettiger, the Notre Dame football player who inspired the movie “Rudy,” will speak Tickets are limited to 600. For information, call (440) 213-8209.
