Patience and perseverance have a magical effect before which difficulties disappear and obstacles vanish. A little knowledge that acts is worth infinitely more than knowledge that is idle.
– John Quincy Adams

The Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research is teaming up with EHE International to raise awareness of the fight against Parkinson’s disease. For the month of July, EHE International has kindly donated a 115-square-foot window space at 10 Rockefeller Plaza to showcase the many ways ordinary citizens can support the Foundation through Team Fox.
“We are thrilled to offer Team Fox the window for the second year in a row for the month of July. Our goal for the Team Fox display is to educate as many people as possible about Parkinson’s disease, and the work The Michael J. Fox Foundation is doing to find a cure,” says Deborah McKeever, President of EHE International.

Happy Friday, Team Fox members and supporters! Here’s a fundraising tip that will help events of all sizes garner attention and support from the community and boost their fundraising totals to the next level.
Sponsorship is an invaluable tool for fundraisers in just about every field or business and something that’s worth taking into consideration if they have the time. Local sponsorship in particularly important for forming lasting relationships with community partners. If established and sustained correctly, a sponsorship can be a great way to ensure a steady stream of returning donations year after year.
One of the most important factors to take into consideration when considering who to approach for a sponsorship is WHO your audience is. If your event tends to be on the smaller side, but has a very specific audience, perhaps you might look into organizations that would have a vested interest in reaching out to that group of particular individuals (Ex. Have a local running company sponsor your walk-a-thon). If, however, your event tends to have a bit of a broader focus, but attracts a large audience with varied interests, perhaps you should consider a business that would have an interest in reaching out to a large audience in one shot (Ex. Have a local branch of a bank sponsor your event).
Sponsors enjoy becoming involved in local events because not only does it allow them to advertise their product or service to a new audience, but it gives them the opportunity to become more involved in their community as well.
Remember, while monetary sponsorships are always helpful, businesses can help your event in a variety of forms, such as in-kind donations. If you’re hosting a Pancakes for Parkinson’s event, see about having a local supermarket sponsor you by providing all of the materials to make the pancakes (batter, toppings, and syrup); if you’re hosting a more formal event, see whether a local floral shop might donate table arrangements or a local vineyard would be interested in providing a portion of the dinner wine.
The possibilities are endless so be creative and start getting to know your community members! For questions regarding sponsorship and your Team Fox event, please check out the Team Fox Guidelines here.

On August 12, Martha’s Vineyard fashion designer Stina Sayre (www.stinasayre.com) will take the concept of the fashion runway in a new direction with a stellar fashion show, Runways Merge: a Fashion Opera Extravaganza, at the Martha’s Vineyard Airport in Edgartown, Massachusetts. The event is a dual-benefit for local performing arts company, The Yard (www.dancetheyard.org), and The Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research, with net proceeds divided between the two organizations.
On the heels of the successful garden party Fashion Show last summer, Stina Sayre is preparing to take off in a new direction, figuratively, with the fashion show at the airport. She is coordinating the evening with Wendy Taucher, Artistic Director for The Yard, and no stranger to boundary-expanding performances. With the 2010 show, Ms. Sayre is looking to expand the traditional concept of the fashion show with the unorthodox location and by enveloping the crowd with opera singers’ voices.
The evening will begin with a brief cocktail party at 6:30 pm; followed by the show at 7:00 pm. For ticket information, please call the Yard at (508) 645-9665.
Visit the fashion show’s Team Fox fundraising page for more information.
